ATLAS project started as a chat over coffee between Alexander - architecture student eager to experiment-form-build, and Jagoda- PhD student in civil engineering looking to save some glass beams from certain death through experiments. Few sketches and administrative applications later, ATLAS became a collaborative ENAC project with support of Prof. Dietz (ALICE) and Prof. Nussbaumer (RESSLab).
OBJECTIVE - question the common perception of glass as building material
Playing with glass elements which resulted from Jagoda's research study, 3 post-tensioned glass beams spanning 6 metres form a bench, maintaining all the structural details of the beam system visible. The glass is supported by 2 coloured UHPFRC blocks with a glossy surface (resembling glass?), a 'magic' finish resulting from Alexander's study on concrete casting.
