Various scales englobed in various social programs, a social scale with a gradient of details that accompany the individual. In lausanne, a warm, welcoming, yet solid horizontality. In Paris, a vertical, private, haussmannian grid-like grandness.

We decided to focus on the arch and the contrast of the above space for our mould of Lausanne. The private space is separated from the public space by a balcony.

Paris has a door overlooking the sidewalk framed by a pair of imposing columns defining the vertical axe that closes off the entrance to a private space.

The hybrid merges the horizontality of the welcoming lines that introduce the pedestrian and/or vehicle to the arch and across the building with the vertical, grid-like system of Paris (that ensures a closed off, private space).

Adding part of an apartment window from Paris within the arch expands this very contrast as the continuous, semi-cercle of the arch is suddenly cut off, forming a new space that is no longer viewed as an invitation.
For the mould of the hybrid, we integrated several details within the arch that extend out, and continue along the facade. It is nearly cubic-shaped in order to ensure an imposable and oppressive aspect. In an attempt to make a contrast between the heavy appearance of the mould and it's actual weight, the volume of the cub is filled with styrofoam. Thereby, it symbolises the remaining of a passage despite the obstacles to it's fluidity.
