• Phase 3 Planes - Final Presentation

Par Leyland Catherine Elsie Jacqueline, 20/12/16

                                                                             The "Ensemble"

For the final presentation, we had to develop a group strategy to build one stable element showing all four of our projets. We stabilized each of our protostructure the same way by using diagonales and by making a cross as a base.

We also decided to create a link between every project. For example, my project is in the corner that shows a transition from a room to another.

We can also see that transition with the stairs that I share with Kathleen and with the floor that is linked with Alexandre's floor.

                                                                          The Individual Element

For the individual part of the phase 3, I decided to integrate the way the space is used in the painting below (We were given many pictures as reference and I chose that one like in the phase 3 exercice 1).

After working on the perspective of the picture, I wanted to explore this spacious transition between the private and the public. Finally, I created an element who was a transition from a project to another and an element that could give intimacy easily while staying open and spacious.

  • First approach of P3 : planes

Par Leyland Catherine Elsie Jacqueline, 24/11/16

For the new phase, I wanted to  explore the emptiness of a space and what effect it can give in a room.

Here is my first approach with the new phase.

This is the painting I chose as my reference.

                                                       Image Fri Nov 25 2016 14:51:11 GMT+0100 (CET)
First, I chose the length and the height of the space provided by the painting then I made a plan and an elevation from it.

I started by doing the 1:132 mold with all the details necessary.

Then I built the protostructure and added the part of the space I was interested in.

    BED-WINDOW

    model 1

This model is the idea we decided to work on. The issues related to this model are; the curve doesn't fit with the human scale (laying person) and is too uncomfortable. The second issue is the amount of wood that we use is too important.

    model 2

We reduced the width and did something way less based on a ''circle'' that is why clear angles have now appeared. The issues: The angles are too brutal and it doesn't express the idea of ''curve'' anymore. The roof doesn't create a link between the window and the bed.

    model 3- final model

This model is a clear mix of the two anterior models. We managed to use less woods, the curve fits with the human scale and it looks more curvy. We decided to do a progressive gap between the boards in order to create a strong link between the window and the bed.

    SITUATION

    place Bel-Air, 1003 Lausanne

interesting facts about the place :

    1. nice paronamic view all over the Flon

    2. isolated

    3. quiet and peaceful because there's nobody at the end of this place

goal : reactivate activity on the place by adding an infrastructure which fits with the qualities of the place. That's why we decided to build a bed-window
