• EXPLORING THE PROTOSTRUCTURE

    Our project consists of a series steps going into the protostructure. The height of each of them is determined by a curve, creating a path starting with simple small steps and ending with bleachers.  The idea behind this project is to explore the protostructure by climbing in three directions.

         1:10 Constructive details


       

    One of the most important aspects of this project is the separation of the structure in modules. The dimensions of the modules are 70 x 80 cm and they are aligned on a grid. Thanks to those modules, the prefabrication and the construction are simplified.

  • Journey to an exterior

    Par Flavien Ducor, 26/12/16

     The aim of this project was to generate a transitional passage from an inside space to an outside space. Using the succession of spaces from the Pieter de Hooch painting and a repeated moment from the measures plaster at different scales,  I worked towards having an ascent or descent linking both spaces as well as a different feeling for every level passed through.

    Perspective from inside transitional passage                                                                      


    Different levels in the transitional passage serve the purpose of giving each space a different feel and degree of confinement or interiority. The difference between the lowest and highest level being the average height of a man allows a sensation of emergeance from an interior but an escalation or journey outwards too.

    The orientation of the fragment in the constellation is quite key in defining the interior of this planes project. Although each side quite clearly suggests which is interior and exterior, placing the interior side of the model towards the center of the constellation confirms it. The fact that the fragment reappears out of the shell also hints towards which side is which

                                                                                                  Three plasters before assembling


    The three repeated modules at different sizes and wall thickness vary in order to increase the degree of interiority. The plaster was chosen because if each module is cast in one piece, the plaster genuinely seals the space inside, strengthening once more the interiority. Each module also interacts with the next to create openings increasing in size you advance through the transitional passage.

     A moment from the measures plaster, which struck me as quite efficient in regards to linking the interior to the exterior, was the first step to the development of this project. The given painting by Pieter de Hooch also played a role in developping a succession of spaces to an exterior.
