The Sunken Rooms
The aim of the project is to make depressions at various points on the floor plane, creating different sunken spaces which could be considered as Rooms whose ceiling is the sky. These depressions create alternate paths through the protostructure. The reduced additive structure combined with the slotted floor reinforce the lightness of the construction in its relation to the protostructure. Because the project is to be used mainly as a static space, we decided to place it on the most ‘open’ side of the protostructure (where the two overhead bridges on the site are farthest away from each other. This is the warmest and sunniest area, and where the top foliage of a group of trees arrives precisely at the height of the larger of our sunken floors.
