• WEEK 13 - PLANES - Final Work

    Par Lorenzo Lamarche, 19/12/16

After working with the verticality of the first project, I decided to make it penetrate a horizontal plane made by vectors     directed in various directions (Entropy cf. Project Elements), in order to contrast the experience of the inhabitant from one space to the other.

In the final work, verticality is in opposition to a density of horizontal vectors. By entering the space, the inhabitant is covered by a multitude of vectors, creating a roof above his head. In order to isolate the inhabitant from this knots of vectors, he can enter the second space marked by a tower made by vertical planes. There, the eye is guided vertically by a post of the protostructure, where the vertical view isn't obstructed by any horizontal line.

''In this system, a single image, agitated and animated like the building itself, replaces the abstract figuration fractioned in plan,                                           section, and elevation. The reader has in front of his eyes, simultaneously, the ground, plan, the exterior of the building,                                                                                     its section, and its interior disposition.'' • WEEK 12 - PLANES - Vertical interaction with the space

    Par Lorenzo Lamarche, 19/12/16

After being interested in the movement and the interaction between the path and the field of view of the inhabitant, I decided to focus more on the verticality of the space in order to explore, in a similar way then before, the experience an inhabitant can have when entering the space.

After multiple tries, testing the possibilities a vertical space offers, I decided to base the concept on the Project Measures. The multiple angles of the planes of the cast make it an interesting starting point. Furthermore, the idea of ''Junctions'' and contrast between volumes make it even more exciting to explore for Planes.

The vertical planes hide the horizontal elements, which create a significative contrast between the two spaces

  • WEEK 11 - PLANES - Combining stairs with a corner window (week of drawing)

    Par Lorenzo Lamarche, 12/12/16

    - A long wall is isolating the inhabitant from the left side of the protostructure. However, an intriguing window at the very top of the of the stairs is teasing him to see the other side of the wall. The stairs and the integrated timber of the                                               protostructure lead the view and the movement to the corner window. -

The ascent to the window has to be made as a film montage, where each step gives a different perspective to the user.

  • WEEK 10 - PLANES - First model on Protostructure

    Par Lorenzo Lamarche, 26/11/16

The idea is to combine different heights with different openings like windows or doors. Like in the ''Promenade                                  Architecturale'', moving around the space will affect the (viewing) experience of the inhabitant.

                      Image Sat Nov 26 2016 17:04:35 GMT+0100 (Europe de l’Ouest)

This is why I chose to use a ramp as an element which is joining two spaces very smoothly and                                                                                                       which avoids a loss of connection between the viewer and the windows

The transition from one space to the other is created by a corner window. The aim of the stairs is to create a similar experience                                                                                       to the one the inhabitant is having by entering the space.

The cast of the negative space

The cast has been made in two parts for two reasons : first, without the roof, it is possible to see the different holes made  by the columns. Then, the part of above was more interesting to study without the roof because it is entirely symetrical,                           so when you turn it around, you don't notice any diffences between the top and the bottom.
