    To begin the second semester, all the studio went to Evian (19/02/2019) to measure the site that we would work on.

    It is an incredible site which offers a panoramic view of the lake. The horizon lets us discover the Swiss coast, and particularly the other site that we used : the Laviau. 

    Our site in Evian is the result of man construction between the road and the lake, and has two main parts : the organized one and the chaotic one.

    One side there is concrete blocks in forms of the letter T, that are aligned, and the dimensions of those blocks are always the same. 

    Moreover, on the other side there is a certain amount of rocks, that are juste laid there, some are moving and some are stuck between others. This chaotic disposition makes it difficult to walk on it, and we have to be careful on every steps in order to stand



  • the moving protostructure

        During the 2 weeks of scaffolding, we decided to form a group that was composed of Guillaume, Stephen and Hugo. We thought it would be interesting to work together because we all had some similar conditions, such as being at the edge of the water and the ground, or also Stephen and Hugo had projects that moved in different ways. 

    The first step was to think about a node inside a protostructure, that could move. Our first test was this one                                  SCAFFOLDING-TC-cabarethugo-101SCAFFOLDING-TC-cabarethugo-102

      After making this test we realized that we needed to have a strong support to hold the bar in the middle. But instead of doing a similar node, we wanted to change the direction of our three axes to have an elegant node, and to do that we chose to imitate the orientation of each axes of guillaume's element, and then we began to build our protostructure. 




        After making our double node at the scale 1:1, we had to work on how to put it on the site. So we worked on a system that could be fixed on the ground and that could hold our protostructure, and that allowed the movement that we made with this pivot. So we made 2 rails, one rail wich moves In the rail under it, so it has a movement in 2 directions

    Those rails are the link between the ground and the protostructure. 

        Then we made our protostructure at the scale 1:10 to see how we could multiply and link our nodes in every directions : 


  • floating carpet

    Planes :

        The weeks after the critique were dedicated to Planes. 

    I had to think about a vertical and a horizontal condition. I wanted to have a logical sequence in my project, so I decided to use my elements and to modify it a bit so I could have a horizontal plane that would float on water. 

    This chain of hinges would be like a floating catwalk, and walkers could go on it to have a good view of the lake and feel the dynamic of the water. I wanted to have a surface that could follow the waves and that could be all linked together, without having a finish line, in the way that it is possible to add as many hinges as we want. Moreover, I had to choose a shape that looked nice and that was pleasant, so I decided to do a triangle, because I liked the idea of having a carpet that was smaller and smaller so that when you reached the last point, you were standing in a small area of the carpet with nothing else around. For me this point would be the limit of the carpet and you would have to be careful of not falling because the surface under your feet is, at this point, small.

    After some models, I found a one that was working pretty well, and I decided to drew a perspective to see what it would look like.


    Then I decided to do the carpet in wood because I like the visual of wood floating on water. When the carpet was made, I had to think of a way to attach it to the rock that I used for measures. I decided to use hooks that could be screwed to any surface and then attach the carpet to the hooks. Then I built a pole that would be anchored in the wall. The last hinge of my carpet is going up and down in the rail inside the pole. I put inside the rail a wood part that can stop the carpet so it won't go underneath this height, and this stop point is the lowest point where the Leman is dropping each year.


  • earth & water

    Measures : 

    Our site is at the end of the Laviau track, and at the exit of the small Harbour. We found our site at first sight because it was the junction between the ground and the lake. We approached to the junction of the two different environment (the dirt and the water), and we saw a little rock that was in between the ground and the lake. We then decided to measure this rock. The thing was that the rock was both on top the water and in the water, so we decided to measure only the apparent part of the rock. For that, we used little ropes that were attached to the grid on their top and that fell on the rock at their bottom.

    Then we made the mold, in cardboard, of the rock that we measured. Then we made the rock in plaster at a scale of 1:3.

    ELEMENT : 

        The next step was to make an element. 

    To do that, we thought about the reasons that made us like this site. And directly we both talked about the junction between the water, with its dynamic movement, and the ground with its stability. So we decided to build an inch that could both represent a movement and a fixe part. We thought about building a structure around the rock, and at its extremity would be fixed some inches that had a part which was moving. 

    We made different sized inches, and we thought of a huge inch that could hold a person. The person would be able to sit on the inch and feel the movement of the water, even though he was attached to the ground.
