Element in a tree

Half a meter elevated off the ground, lies the small rounded surface of the interior of the tree. Deciding to use this space between the branches as our "ground" we set to work to imagine a structure that would permit us to build upon.

We started by simplifying the plaster cast we made of the interior of the tree into a polyhedron, that would lock our system into place.

Onto this polyhedron, we imagined a solid structure that would lean on the space between the branches.

Originally, we designed a wooden column made up of a cross, that would be enforced at every half length. This created a platform-like space on the top.



The plaster would be concave in a cross shape, which would hold 30cm of the column.

Unfortunately, this model had a few issues. The concave cross in the plaster was too small so the column didn't enter well. Also, the transfer from triangle to cross was awkward.


Therefore for the update, we decided to use three long pieces of wood that would be hold together by cuts in the wood and platforms in the plaster.

We were not sure if the wood would be held with only the cuts in the wood and the base of the plaster, so we made a plaster that would hold the wood on the opposite side of the intersection from the plaster.

The plaster now had to have a triangular top, and slight indents in the sides.

We were not able to do the cuts in the wood, so we decided to turn the wood so the avoid each other. to achieve a balance, we had to attach the wood to the plaster, so we used rope. Ideally, we would have liked to create a structure of wood or plaster the do the job of the string.
