• The dining room

    Par Charamel Lucile, 14/03/20

It is 12 pm, on this spring day, I enter the room with my family.

Tired from this morning hike, I sit on the ground and lean on the inclined wall next to my father. My mother sits in front of us.

We discuss of this and that. My brother staying apart, over cross the bench and turning his back to us.

I am comfortably sheltered from the sun and happy to share this moment together, I observe the sunny face of my mother.

In this convivial moment, we start our lunch.

    WEEK 1: the first step

an exploration by drawings, to begin a conceptual position of  4 planes.

8 am, I enter the room with my notebook and my pencils. I sit on one of the two chairs obscuring the space. Thanks to the sunlight seeping through the narrow opening above my head, I begin my sketch. Facing the Rhône, I draw. A friend joins me, we discuss our loves, our friends and our problems. After our exchanges I need to be alone .

I get up and walk along the inclined wall,  go around it and discover behind a more secured, intimate and dark space, propitious to observation.

However, the passage is narrow, I pass with agility in this new place by regaining my balance using the wooden pillar. I sit cross-legged in this quiet place. Serene and hidden, behind closed door, I observe the forest and myself, when I see a bird on a branch, I observe it and sketch it silhouette in ink.

    WEEK 2: A new reflexion

change of main idea - new orientation of plans

    Image Thu Mar 26 2020 08:06:04 GMT+0100 (CET)

My research was to find volumes allowing to live together or for ourselves. Spatiality have to respond to the idea of a friendly space that must be large enough to welcome many people.

The space must provide to people protection and comfort, although it has a large opening to the outside.

WEEK 3 and 4: The structural part

Reflexion on the static aspect of the part, the assemblies and the fixations of the plans between them and the incorporation with the protostructure.

    The dining room

The room is located along the Rhone, in contact with the ground where it takes support. The room consists of only one main space: "the dining room" accompanied by a secondary space, useful for accessing and being able to rest.

The main volume is a friendly space to share a moment allowing 6 to 8 people sharing a convivial time. Seated face to face, some of them on the concrete bench and others resting against the oblique wall on the structural pillars. The bench, the oblique wall gives to the hikers, walking along the Rhône a casual place to have a nice picnic or to take a short break along the river. The access thru a narrow way opens on the dining room.

All the light entries lead the room to be a part of the surrounding, providing to the guest a strong belonging to their environment.

    Image Sat Mar 14 2020 19:51:32 GMT+0100 (CET)

The layout of the structure is given by its geographical position with a good orientation for the light, the river and the trees, and also provides a strong structural approach for the construction and bearing of the room.

The open space induces people to join together. The two pillars of the protostructure reorganize the room and  dividing  the spaciousness. The first pillar defines the entrance of the room. The second pillar allows to form partial separations between people, to form groups and new atmospheres.

    Rencontre
