"La poésie doit être faite par tous. Non par un".

    Lautréamont

On the site, there’s a big contrast between the forests/the woods surrounding the site and the asphalt on the ground for the parking, encouraging cars to access the site. It seems that humans have taken over this quiet land near the Arve and transformed it to better suit their interests.

In writing our fictional story, we refer to historical elements, so it is more of a possible fiction with a realistic historical background. To illustrate and offer a better legibility of the text, we decided to insert images from our inventory, a mix of historical sources and invented ones.

Our fiction has direct links with the House project: starting with the fact that the main character of our fiction is a visitor who discovers the elements of House as the story unfolds, with the flashbacks that occur when discovering a new room. To create these links we have collaborated with several groups working on the House by making proposals for modifications. Each episode of our fiction introduces artefacts which find their origin in the past of the  junction and can be rediscovered whilst exploring the House.

The sensorial experience of the visitor of the House, the protagonist of our myth is given by the experience group. There is a past, fictional layer, and a present layer, tangible.

The delta is found in the global circulation of the house, and especially in the irrigation system. The reservoir reminds the lake Léman.

Dercéto and more globally the biodiversity refers to the tribunal for the environment. This last one is strongly related to the environment, with the tree which goes through the room.

The flood appears in the garden next to the water. It consists in a natural system of irrigation bringing rich earth.

Mushrooms are found in the mushrooms garden.

Bricks of the gas factory explosion are materialized in the garden next to the water. It is a mix of old found bricks and new ones made with the arth on the site.

The confinement concept is the antagonist of the house program.

The house is a place of conviviality where people meet. The social theme is preponderant, especially in the debate room and in the theater, which is a fight again the silence !

    Concept Text:

A house full of contradictions, a room serving one purpose and the next the complete opposite. Sometimes, they are passive observers and sometimes, active participants. Sharing collective moments with others one instant and enjoying the intimacy of their private quarters in the next. They can also pass from a very low place where they feel immersed in nature to another higher one where they have greater visibility in front of them.

The first room that they see after entering the house is the debate room. This room has its privacy because of the three planes composing its roof and because of its position on a lower level than the entrance of the house. The choice of its circular form was made to make it more comfortable for people to discuss and be able to see everyone in the room. The second one is the theatre which is composed of bleachers following the slope of the site. The bleachers don’t touch the slope to avoid destroying the vegetation that exists on site. At the end of the slope, there is the stage that touches the water where a play can take place using the landscape behind as a backdrop where or a movie can be shown on the removable screen. The house can be seen from the other side of the river because of a high signal made of many small spaces of different heights for one or two people. Stairs allow the circulation between these places that offer an intimate moment. Also, they shade some parts of the bleachers during the day. The transition between all the rooms is ensured by simple spaces with good visibility of the house so people always have the choice to take a direction knowing where it’s leading them.

  • Chronology of a reading room

    Par Delortlaval Paul, 15/03/20

Week 1 : Drawing researches, program for a room

    Defind a program: first findings

    Image Sun Mar 15 2020 11:28:00 GMT+0100 (heure normale d’Europe centrale)

    Vermeer, Girl reading a letter - 1657

From a painting by Vermeer, I could find the main points we need to be able to read easily:

    - possibility to separate the reader from the outside

    - necessity to have enough light

Moreover, I decided to introduce an oblique plan, so the reader can lean against it. The goal is to read novels, it takes more time than a letter.

the room is put in the up part of the protostructure to enhance the brightness.

Then began the drawing researches :

plan (1:10);  elevation (1:10) and perspective

Week 2 : modify, condense informations

To add more specificity to the space, a plan was made 1m10 high, in order to put books on it. moreover, you can have an intimate space when you sit, but you can have a conversation about your readings when you stand up.

Then the plan that whas 1m10 high was put crossing the oblique plan, definding two spaces on each side, for two readers.

Week 3&4: Concretisation and integration in the protostructure

    The plans her become concrete.

The horizontal plan is made between horizontal wood beams of the protostructure. It is realised thanks to a template.

the 1m10 high plan becomes a bookcase, both linking and separating the reading spaces.

    Perspective from inside

    16:00

    I enter the room.

I walk to the bookcase on my right

I squat to choose a book in a row.

I get up and browse it to check my choice.

Then I turn around the bookcase and sit on the floor, leaned to the oblique plan.

I don't see anymore the entrance of the room, I'm quiet.

The light is behind, I can read without being disturbed by a direct lighting, but the brighness is still enough.

    I spend the afternoon there.

During this time someone comes, takes a book and sits on the other side of the bookcase.

Once finished, we stand up and exchange about what we have just read.

    We store the book.

    We leave the room together.
