This year, the two places chosen by ALICE y1 are sites on the banks of the Rhône and the Arve. The one we are working on is called "the Galpon site".
It reveals an industrial area hidden by trees and mixes public and private areas, such as the Galpon theater as well as the warehouse for the waste of Geneva.
The site is surrounded by woods and has a rich biodiversity, however, the human footprint is very present on the site: the asphalt levelling the land spreads over a large portion of the Galpon site. This artificial soil implies that trees have been removed at this location, thus encouraging access for motor vehicles.
So these contrasts and the diversity make the site attractive and interesting for the establishment of the House project, A JUNCTURE.
site plan (scale 1:100)
The particularity of the site is that the house is located on a inclined slope through the woods and links the parking lot to the water.

The house mixes several themes such as reunification, to gather people in a place that draws a parallel to the junction.
It is a place where we can debate about the environment such as the debate room located on the ground floor, at the parking lot level. We can also observe it through the flows with the observatory, located on the top floor at 7.6 meters from the water. The links to the environment are omnipresent throughout the house, for exemple the gardens with the mush'room and the perma sup. The house give you an easy access to the Arvre river thanks to the dock, cool place to enjoy the surrounding environement.
It is also a cultural and social place with the theatre, located at 5.1 meter from the water.
The particularity of the site is that the visitor is guided chronologically through the house, he goes from the stairs on the parking lot to the dock a the bottom, next to the water.

The protostructure has been structurally strengthened to make possible the construction of the different parts, by adding fondations, densification and bracing elements.
A part of the protostructure has been removed though, regarded as unnecessary and space taken.
