Being minimally curved, the Pantheon's floor forms the subject of our first architectural project. From some mere measurements given on a plan (cf. below), we had to sketch out a wooden model.

The wooden construction is constituted on a basis of four 70cm long sticks, building the main grid. The top one is built by the disparate heights (written on the given plan). In addition to the external structure, one pair of diagonals - made of two different sticks glued together - crosses each other in the center, connecting four of the corners and strengthening the construction.

    Representation of the Pantheon's floor

    Sketches

To begin with, we made some sketches of the scale model representing a fragment of the Pantheon's floor.

Those sketches are representing the B4 model

    Wooden scale model

As a common project, we had to represent the Pantheon’s floor using wooden sticks. The floor was divided within each group, who had to make a scale model using the given measurements.

In fact, the Pantheon’s floor is not a flat one, in reality, it is slightly curved.

The scale models are all made out of two 70x70 cm squares which are related by variable heights. Because of the curved floor, one of the two height is somewhat smaller. To ensure a strong scale model, we were also demanding to add diagonals, connecting the opposite angles.

The wooden sticks were already 70 cm length, but we had to saw some of them to make the heights following the measurements given. The diagonals being longer than 70 cm, we had to glue two sticks together to match our measurements.

It was really nice to work in pairs, considering we were all a bit lost with all those totally new information.
