"Scaffolding, is a temporary structure used to support a work crew and materials to aid in the construction."
Our scaffolding, which means “proto-structure”, is not a clean page, it has its own logic, and details. To integrate our structures with proto-structure, first we need to understand its formation. Because if we don't consider every detail it has, it will become an obstacle in the way instead of being an opportunity. And we started to built our new project by using the proto-structure and our model which we made in PLANES.
First ideas, and researches for the Scaffolding
The next thing we have to consider beside the scaffolding, is the structure of the ground. We aimed to place our project into the proto-structure while keeping in mind both the stability of the scaffolding and the form of the land.
If we come to talk about the project, we didn’t change the formation of our vertical from the project, only the positioning. We made use of it as a wall. Our main goal was to reflect the idea of creating different points of view. What we’re trying to mean by this is, by using wooden planks to form a semi- transparent wall, we wanted to replicate the feelings of both being outside and in a closed space, thus protecting the dialogue between human, and the environment.
The second object in our planes project was the block. We transitioned the block to be a vast façade. We came to this idea that has inspired from modern architecture – specifically Pavillon Allemand de Barcelona which was designed to “block” any passage through the site. Another source for the idea was the spaces in the plaster on the ground. The facade perfectly fitted to the space, and with this placement, the ground became an opportunity, and a way to preserve the passage, without changing any of its proper self.
Other reasons for our inspiration from modern architecture are; its embrace of minimalism, the rejection of ornaments and finally the material revolution, which is the reason that very architecture came to be. That is another explanation for us using different materials for the construction. The reasoning behind the color choice of black for the distinct material is, the desire to awaken diverse sentiments by making use of the particularities between the same substances.
Arriving to the diagonals and the “mouvement” aspect , which form the last part of our project, we placed wooden planks diagonally, each one having different angles to show each movement, in between the vertical and the paper wall. At the very same time, we have created the dialogue including the paper wall and the vertical, by also sustaining the equilibrium.
