A long time ago life began underwater. The plant and insect first explore the ground environment. Then follow by the first amphibian explorator
This moment, the exit of the water is the legacy of our evolution. In translation this is when the human get the amphibian character.
The bather's exit from the water usually results in a gentle rise out of the water. The transition of these two elements has as for "idea" the entry of space, (the terrestrial environment).
Taking up a topographical condition linked to the seaside, lake or perhaps the Rhone, the designed space is in the continuity of the "bank" by an oblique plane.
the room as a monolith made of concret:
analyse of the void:
The two planes are orthogonal to each other. They are composed of slats oriented at a similar angle for both planes. The slats produce a play of opacity and transparency depending on the position of the visitor in the space. A movement is thus created. It invites the visitor to position himself at the top of the ramp. From there, he naturally looks at where he comes from. The Rhone is, however, hidden by the slats. Only the sound of the water acts as an auditory lair.
the pre-transcription of a future experience:
At first, the bather feels the water on his body. When he or she arrives in front of the room, the visitor must literally swim in the space.
The transition between the two elements is synonymous with the landing of the door. The movement of water extraction is accompanied by the feeling of the streaming of water and air.
After crossing the threshold in the continuity of the bank, the visitor finds himself in the terrestrial environment. He begins to readjust to the gravity of the environment.
is the entrance to the room, the bank, the interior and to the north the protostructure open to the unknown or perhaps the continuity of this project.
This hypothesis of continuity has three axes; the ground in the north, the sky above the room and the aquatic environment in the south. Any one of these directions can be considered.
In conclusion, the project is part of the "becoming leman" framework and makes it a central point to inhabit the waters of the Rhone.
The rooms phase turned digitally for the last two weeks.
The following space is made for ornithology, the observation of birds, especially the ones who live in the context of the rhone and the lake Léman.
It is thought for one person, standing up, with his/her chest and head exceeding from the triangular opening.
The person would come the morning, when the activity of the city of Geneva is low, but the bird's activity is already high. People from the city could easily go in a short amount of time to the contact of the natural environnement of the Rhone, and birds.
The diagram of the apparent armature of the cantilever is having the same proportion of a cell of the protostructure, seen in plan.
The space is made of four planes. Two of them are related to the protostructure, due to their orthogonal orientation. They have a concrete materiality and are opaque. They reminds something terrestrial, as the city not far away from the site.
The two other plans are related to the natural environnement. They have a wooden materiality, are made of slats which gives a certain transparency from inside points of views. Furthermore, their axes aren't oriented to the proto strongly as the two other plans. They remind the sky and the birds.
As the interior, the threshold (top elevation) is picked up on itself, as it is often the case with hidden spaces. The space, compressed, is a place to see without being seen.
Position of the human body in the room, and the opening from where the head and the chest of the person can exceed.
The diagonal edge of the vertical plan gives the possibility to the observer to decide his degree of hideness. It is an adaptation to different sizes.
The goal of the cantilever is to give a free space in order to put long views binoculars set on a tripod to observe birds far away.
They show the diferents views that the observer is having for the room.
It's a wide and open view facing the rhone.
Different birds points of views. They show the capacity of the space to hide the ornithologist.
