    ***

as you walk on the platform behind that wall you can hear the water but can't see it although near you, this wall is acting like a barrier.

then you finally enter the space through this small entrance. bending down at first in order to go in,   you feel a colder temperature created by the roof over you head. the space is getting bigger the closer you get to the river. an attraction is created so you advance. then you arrived at those bleacher and see the water streaming under you.

as you sit, you decide to put your feet in the water. the temperature is nice for a swim

        *JUMP*

as you swim the flow of the river is pulling you to the stairs. time to go back to the platform. you decide to lay where the sun is to dry.

ROOMS : PROJECT CONCEPTS AND IDEAS

i created a space made of 4 plans, a ROOM over the course of this phase that convey a link, an access to the water. those 4 plans plays singular different role although constituting one space.

        Image Sun Mar 15 2020 14:15:31 GMT+0100 (heure normale d’Europe centrale)                 Image Sun Mar 15 2020 14:15:31 GMT+0100 (heure normale d’Europe centrale)

the oblique plan  is used as a ground and helped me create a correlation between my space and the environment        around it. it also allowed me to play with different stairs conditions because i wanted to convey two distinct ways to the     water, one in : the bleacher, one out: the stairs

we were told to choose a time frame for the use of our project. mine is around midday to mid afternoon. therefore i     placed my horizontal plan so that a certain part the room is covered by shadow during that moment.

the tilted vertical plan defines a more intimate space in my room made for ones who wants to isolate himself from     the others. the protostructure establish a threshold, an entrance to this more intimate part

    MATERIALITY

after considering our plans as only frames when starting making our models, the question of materiality came during this     last week.

for my project i decided to play with the materiality of my vertical plans in order to enforce the different part of my rooms

from the outside the visible walls are made of plaster

in the main space both material: plaster and wood are visible

    Image Sun Mar 15 2020 14:15:31 GMT+0100 (heure normale d’Europe centrale)

from the point of view in the more private and personal space, the unity of material reinforce the sense of intimacy

The two plaster plans are related to the protostructure due to their orientation and their structural relation with it. They where thought to be more earthly due also to their reinforced concrete materiality ( there in plaster ). The two wooden plane are more aerial, they don't have a strong relation of orientation with the protostructure. They are oblique and don't have specific shared axes with the protostructure as the two concrete plans. Furthermore, they have a certain trensparencity and their materiality isn't heavy as concrete. They where thought to be more related to the birds.

The ground of the interior space is made of plane concrete and is surrounded by a square of flowering wood of the protostructure. The floor in front of the room is squared by an wooden flowering armature. There is a structural purpose, and a will of contrast which underlines the limits of the inner space.

The slope of the vertical plan is thought in order that people can have different degrees of hiddenness, according to their hight.

From the inside. The agencement of the wooden slats gives a transparency from the inside of the room. The purpose is to perceive the birds around.  By standing up,  the chest and the head of the visitor exceeds from the triangular hole. It allouds an open view to the environment to see the birds, and take photos.

From the observing spot, the oblique plan doesn't hide totally the left side of the panorama. But if people go on the front of the room, they will be hidden from this part of the environment.

WEEK 3: REDEFINING THE PURPOSE OF MY ROOM

    Image Sat Mar 14 2020 12:36:01 GMT+0100 (heure normale d’Europe centrale)

experiencing the oblique plan in the Rolex in order to find a good slope for my project

throughout the course of this third week, i reevaluate the function of my room although trying to keep the essence of my project which is the relationship it has with the water. therefore after a discussion with studio directors i made the choice to modify my project in the interest of developing a space which would serve as an access to the water.

we were also told to considerer our plans as frames to see how we could strengthen the protostructure by adding branch in our plans. with this in mind i began making my model in 1:10

Further evolutions of the room :

After analyzing the space of week two, it seems that the part of it with the stronger character was the space under the cornice for the art. The essence of this small compressed space tried to be preserved through  some changes in the room :

    Image Fri Mar 13 2020 20:47:53 GMT+0100 (CET)

    Image Fri Mar 13 2020 20:47:53 GMT+0100 (CET)

    Small cardboard studies

These studies brought to an observatory for ornithology, especially for species of birds living next to the rhone. Troglodyte, pouillots, cygnes, plongeons, hérons, fuligule morillon, canards, sterne, martin pêcheur, milan noir...

The space inspired from the discover of the small space under the cornice from week two is compressed and underlines the idea that a hidden space ( from birds ) is often compressed, picked up on oneself.

Structurally not very convincing... An other materiality for two plans was chosen : slats of wood, allowing a transparency from inside the room to perceive more easily the birds.

  • ROOMS WEEK TWO

    Par Hayoz Nils, 11/03/20

Evolution of the first draft :

This week, the project has been evolving and getting more precisely defined.

The space is still designated to the observation of a piece of art, an activity which is often an interior experience, contrasted by the experience of the panorama around, witch is more an exterior experience due to the interactivity with the environment.

The observer enters on the right and is having a low point of view of the sculpture, exposed on the cornice.

    Image Wed Mar 11 2020 19:20:06 GMT+0100 (CET)

The observer climbs on the second horizontal plan, helping himself with point of the vertical plan. This second point of view is higher and from an other angle. The volumity of the art piece can be appreciated.

    Image Wed Mar 11 2020 19:20:06 GMT+0100 (CET)

At the end of the "walk" around the sculpture - a kind of loop which generates continuously different points of views -, the observer gets out of the space, helping himself to get down with the oblique plan. The entrance and the exit are separated to allow a fluid circulation of the people. Even if more than one person is visiting the room at the same time, the visitor is not supposed to cross other people's path. The cornice for the sculpture is always protected, by the hight or plans witch indicate to the observer to not intrude into the space where the piece lays.
